Beginners may tend to focus on reading the notes and finding the keys on the piano and forget to bring personal sensitivity to bear on the music. Here are three tips to help beginning piano students energize their music with personality and style. 1. Relax so your body can easily respond to the music as you play. Breath slowly and deeply while playing to keep your body relaxed. 2. Feel the vibrations of each note as it is played and allow it to resonate through your body. This is like "plugging the piano" into your nervous system. It creates an energy circuit that infuses the music with the human sensitivity of the artist. 3. Hear the music in your mind and decide how to play each note. Play the music as though you are telling an interesting story to your very best friend. Use your energy and imagination to make the music personal to you. Music always tells a story. And each piece of music has it's own language. Learning to creatively articulate the music according to it's unique story is a process that helps piano students grow into musical artists. Following these three simple tips your students or child in piano are sure to add personality and style to their playing and learn to tell a great musical story that is true to their heart.
