Do you remember Easter, or other celebrated holidays in your family? I guess you do. Most of us have some memories stuck in our head for years and years about how things went when.... Having your own family rituals is something great for kids. It is part of what makes you a family, makes you memorable as a family. We always had boiled eggs and played a couple of rounds of ticking top to tops and bottoms to see which egg would last the longest without getting cracked. It is an Easter breakfast memory I thoroughly enjoy. When we started our own family it was time to pick and choose, to create our own family rituals. Some came from my wife's family, like growing easter grass and yes, we still do the egg ticking game and do easter egg hunts and more. You don't have to make any of this difficult or expensive. It is the time you spend doing these things together that counts. And of course sharing the windfall. In my wife's family the hunt for chocolate eggs was set up so that every child had to find their share. Which made the older ones really want to help the young ones. Because the sooner they got it all, the sooner the chocolates were shared. The Parenting Tip: Whether it is having warm buns, chocolate eggs or a traditional warm meal, when you set up your own family traditions, rituals, make them simple and interactive, so everyone can enjoy them. Involving the teens will be easier when you show them that this is how families create a good time together, with little effort. That they are giving a gift of a good memory, with a great brother or sister. One that lasts a life time! And get ready to have fun. Because when you see fun, expect fun, and focus on the fun, even if something goes a bit off, chances are that your kids will have fun too! Happy Easter!
